Con l’avveniristico progetto “seedbomb” il designer Hwang Jin Wook intende dichiarare una pacifica guerra alla desertificazione incomebente su molteplici aree del pianeta.

La missione consisterebbe nello sgancio sulle zone interessate di bombe atte a rilasciare in volo capsule in plastica biodegradabile contenenti sementi, terreno e nutrimento necessari per la fase iniziale di innesto della nuova vegetazione.

L’idea, come Hwang Jin wook ci ha spiegato, si ispira ad un evento risalente alla fine della Seconda Guerra Mondiale, quando il pilota americano Gail Halvorsen promise ai bambini di disperdere caramelle dal suo aereo ogni qualvolta in fase di atterraggio all'aeroporto Tempelhof di Berlino, in segno di speranza:

Since invented the bomb, bombs killed millions of people and destroyed the earth through the several wars.
But, here is the bomb what save the Earth from Desertification & Global warming.
After The 2nd world war, Gail Halvorsen, an American pilot, airdropped candies in the name of hope, for the Berlin Children.
The seedbomb is the bomb of hope like the candies of Gail Halvorsen.
Seedbomb is a non-military bomb that protects earth from worsening desertification and lessens sandstorms.
When a Seedbomb is released from an airplane, Seedbomb is disassembled in the air and Seed capsules inside
of the bomb spread out widely and fall on the ground.

Housed in biodegradable plastic, the artificial soil provides nourishment and moisture to the seed; till it grows out to be a strong enough plant to sustain itself. As the sapling matures, the plastic capsule melts away, leaving behind a brand new generation.
